Application Engineer — RF and Microwave Focus
Location: Tampa Bay, Florida
Work Arrangement: Tampa Bay preferred; remote or hybrid arrangements may be considered for the right candidate
Employment Type: Full-Time
Eligibility: U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency required
About the Company
We are a small, independent, privately held technology company specializing in high-accuracy simulation models for RF and microwave devices. Our products help RF, microwave, and hardware design engineers around the world accelerate simulation-based design, improve design confidence, and bring high-frequency products to market more efficiently.
With a team of about 25 passionate employees, we offer the opportunity to do meaningful, visible work without the layers and bureaucracy of a large corporation. You will collaborate directly with engineering, sales, leadership, partners, and customers while contributing to advanced solutions in the RF and microwave design space.
If you enjoy deep technical work, customer interaction, and the chance to make a real impact inside a focused, collaborative company, this role offers an exciting opportunity.
About the Role
We are seeking an Applications Engineer with an RF and microwave focus to support our simulation model products, customers, partners, and growth initiatives.
This is a highly visible role that blends RF/microwave engineering, technical customer support, software demonstration, technical content creation, and customer-facing applications work. You will help engineers understand, evaluate, and successfully use our simulation models in real-world RF and microwave design workflows.
The ideal candidate is technically strong, outgoing, organized, and comfortable communicating with both engineering teams and customers. You should enjoy solving problems, explaining complex technical concepts clearly, and helping customers get value from advanced RF/microwave design tools.
What You’ll Do
As an Applications Engineer, you will:
- Provide expert technical support for RF and microwave simulation models, software tools, and related services.
- Engage directly with customers, partners, sales representatives, and internal teams to solve technical challenges and demonstrate product value.
- Deliver software demonstrations, customer training, webinars, and technical presentations.
- Support customer visits, trade shows, virtual meetings, and partner discussions.
- Help prepare responses to RFQs, technical inquiries, customer evaluations, and product-related questions.
- Create high-quality technical content, including application notes, design examples, technical papers, tutorials, and video demonstrations.
- Assist customers with RF/microwave simulation workflows involving amplifiers, oscillators, filters, matching networks, and subsystem-level designs.
- Develop a strong working understanding of the company’s simulation model libraries and how they are used in leading RF/microwave EDA environments.
- Collaborate with engineering, sales, and leadership to identify customer needs, product opportunities, and new growth areas.
- Contribute to software product testing, installer management, release support, and product quality feedback.
- Represent the company professionally in customer-facing and partner-facing technical conversations.
What We’re Looking For
Candidates should meet one of the following education and experience profiles:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with an RF/microwave focus.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering plus at least 2 years of experience in an RF engineering, microwave engineering, applications engineering, or related technical role.
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with an RF/microwave focus.
Required Qualifications
- Strong understanding of RF and microwave engineering principles.
- Interest in customer-facing technical support, technical promotion, and applications engineering.
- Excellent verbal communication, writing, presentation, and organizational skills.
- Ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to customers, partners, and internal stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with a small, cross-functional team.
- High proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency.
Preferred Technical Skills
The strongest candidates will bring experience with one or more of the following:
- RF/microwave simulation tools such as Keysight ADS, Cadence AWR Design Environment, Ansys HFSS, Sonnet Suites, Cadence tools, or similar EDA platforms.
- Simulation-based RF hardware design for amplifiers, oscillators, filters, matching networks, and RF/microwave subsystems.
- RF/microwave device models, nonlinear models, S-parameters, compact models, equivalent circuits, or simulation model libraries.
- Customer training, software demonstrations, technical sales support, or applications engineering.
- Creating application notes, white papers, technical presentations, tutorials, webinars, or product videos.
- Camtasia or similar tools for audio/video recording, editing, and tutorial production.
- Software testing, installer testing, release validation, or technical product support.
Who Thrives Here
You will thrive in this role if you are:
- Technically curious and genuinely interested in RF and microwave design.
- Customer-oriented and motivated by helping engineers solve real design challenges.
- Clear and confident communicator who can translate complex technical details into practical guidance.
- Outgoing and relationship-driven, with the ability to build trust with customers, partners, and colleagues.
- Hands-on and detail-oriented, especially when testing software, building demos, or troubleshooting customer issues.
- Comfortable in a small-company environment, where flexibility, ownership, and initiative matter.
- Collaborative and humble, with a willingness to jump in, learn, contribute, and support the team.
