District Works provides a wide variety of services that help create beautiful neighborhoods and public spaces by removing litter and illegal dumping, installing and maintaining landscaping projects, installing street furniture or we can provide hospitality staff that make public plazas, downtowns and neighborhoods more comfortable and welcoming for all.

Position Summary

A District Works Service Ambassador provides a wide variety of essential and supplemental services to neighborhoods and community benefit districts (CBDs). We support ongoing beautification programs through our landscaping department, specialized litter removal through our Maintenance department, and public realm management services through our Hospitality teams. As a Service Ambassador your duties will be varied, but your primary responsibility will be to offer exceptional customer service to all members of our community while you are working to better the world, one street at a time.

The primary responsibilities of a Maintenance Service Ambassador are as follows:

  • TRANSPORT CREW – Responsible for safely transporting cleaning crew to cleaning various sites, following the assigned deployment schedule presented by your Supervisor.
  • CLEANING
    • Responsible for sweeping of sidewalks, curb lines, drain covers and removal of various debris from public spaces.
  • REPORTING – Must provide written reports of routes, number of bags collected, number of bulk items removed, estimated bag and bulk item weight and basic daily reports of accomplishments and tasks completed. All information must be logged into the designated software system.

The primary responsibilities of the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit)Hospitality Service Ambassador are as follows:

  • HOSPITALITY & CUSTOMER SERVICE – Greet and engage with BART patrons prior to and after using a designated BART restroom. Provide assistance connecting BART patrons with the appropriate BART representatives to answer any questions they may have regarding BART that do not involve the restrooms.
  • MAINTAINING ORDER– Ensure that restrooms are appropriately used by BART patrons in a timely manner.
  • OBSERVING & DISPATCHING – Ensure each BART restroom is safe by addressing any inappropriate or illegal activities in or around restroom with effective communication or by contacting the nearest BART primary station agent as appropriate. Maintain the cleanliness of the restrooms and areas immediately surrounding the restrooms by promptly contacting BART’s primary station agents, as appropriate.
  • COMMUNICATION – Maintain constant communication with appropriate representatives of BART to ensure smooth operations of the restrooms and contribute to the safe and clean environment of the 19th Street and Powell Street Stations. Maintain cleanliness of the restrooms and areas immediately surrounding the restrooms by promptly contacting BART’s primary station agents, as appropriate.
  • REPORTING – Must provide written reports and collect data as required. All information must be logged into the designated software system.

The primary responsibilities of the Special Projects Service Ambassador are as follows:

  • SPECIAL PROJECTS – Work on projects as assigned.
  • BIG BELLY UNIT INSTALLATION – Work with team members to install and/or remove Bigbelly units into concrete surfaces in public areas as requested.
  • BIG BELLY ROUTINE CLEANING – Perform preventative maintenance on Bigbelly units.
  • BIG BELLY ELECTRONIC REPAIR – Assist with replacement of defective components or parts, using hand tools and precision instruments.
  • TECHNICAL APTITUDE – Required to log in to client software to receive work instructions and complete service requests.
  • CUSTOMER SERVICE – Maintain a positive, professional environment in full compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, procedures and overall District Works standards of expected professionalism.
  • REPORTING – Must provide written reports and collect data as required. All information must be logged into the designated software system.

The primary responsibilities of the Landscaping Service Ambassador are as follows:

  • WATERING – Water all hanging and/or median plants as required and assigned. Hanging plant baskets include climbing 8-10 feet with the use of a ladder.
  • PLANT MAINTENANCE – Care and maintenance for all plant materials as assigned, including but not limited to; feeding, inspecting, repotting, trimming and the removal of weeds.
  • LITTER ABATEMENT – Removal and proper disposal of trash and other waste as needed.
  • DRIVING – Must be able to safely drive a work truck with a watering or maintenance trailer.
  • EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE – Responsible for ensuring all equipment is fully functional at start and end of shift. Will notify Operations Manager immediately if equipment is in need of repair.
  • REPORTING – Must be able to provide written reports of routes and collect data as required, including number of planters watered, number of planters that required maintenance, and basic daily reports of accomplishments and tasks completed. All information must be logged into the designated software system.

Requirements:

  • Must be able to provide proof of valid CA Driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Must be able to speak, read, and write the English language in order to create basic reports. The ability to speak other languages is a bonus.
  • Must maintain a positive, professional environment in full compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, procedures and overall District Works standards of expected professionalism.
