Purpose: To work in conjunction with the DeWitt Store Manager to select, price, and merchandize grocery, outside deli, bulk and wellness products; to keep displays, coolers and shelves fully stocked and to provide prompt, friendly, courteous customer service. This position has a main focus on the buying and stocking component of the DeWitt Store product line. To create a hospitable environment that welcomes coworkers, customers, owners, and members of the community.

Status: Level III, Lead Staff, Supervised by DeWitt Store Manager

Responsibilities:

BUYER/STOCKER

  • Place orders with suppliers as directed by DeWitt Store Manager and Operations Manager.
  • Receive orders in accordance with established procedures.
  • Coordinate returns and credits from suppliers in a timely manner.
  • Set prices following guidelines set by the DeWitt Store Manager and Operations Manager.
  • Review invoices for accuracy, code and input into database and pass on to Finance Department for payment.
  • Review invoices for DEWITT ONLY products and keep prices up-to-date.
  • Stock products following guidelines set by the DeWitt Store Manager and Operations Manager.
  • Ensure that new products are promptly and correctly put in pricing database and put out on retail floor.
  • Stock out orders, prioritize and delegate stocking needs for member labor and Workforce/YES participants.
  • Ensure proper communication between DeWitt Store Manager, other departments and satellite stores.

MERCHANDISING

  • Prepare store for opening.
  • Ensure shelves are fully stocked and rotated to ensure freshness.
  • Ensure accurate, up-to-date price labeling of store items.
  • Ensure accuracy of product input in point of sale database.
  • Create and maintain attractive displays throughout the store.
  • Coordinate with West End buyers for promotional offerings.

CUSTOMER SERVICE

  • Assist customers with product questions in a prompt, and courteous manner, referring them to other staff when necessary.
  • Work as part of a team to develop a hospitable department space that feels welcoming to all.
  • Participate in customer service trainings, all-staff meetings, department meetings, and OBM Huddles to stay informed.
  • Knowledgeable about all DeWitt products.
  • Help customers place special orders.

RECEIVING

  • Check deliveries to verify piece count; notify buyer of discrepancies.
  • Check for damage and unacceptable quality; notify Store Manager of problems.
  • Help with unloading as needed.
  • Process invoices as directed by Store Manager.
  • Rotate overstock into storage.
  • Update stocking list as orders come in.

DEPARTMENT MAINTENANCE

  • Coordinate storage of items to be returned to suppliers. See that unsalable items are properly disposed.
  • Keep accurate shrinkage records.
  • Ensure that backstock area is well organized, products are rotated regularly and as minimal as possible.
  • Ensure that DeWitt storage areas are clean, orderly condition, meeting health department standards.
  • Ensure adherence to product prohibitions and restrictions (see Policy Book Appendix 3).

SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Follow GreenStar’s safety rules.
  • Assist other employees in safety needs.
  • Report unsafe equipment and conditions.
  • Participate in safety training programs, assist with accident investigation.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.

STOREWIDE AND OTHER DUTIES

  • Attend Human Resources trainings, all-staff meetings, department meetings, and OBM Huddles to stay informed.
  • Read GreenStar publications to stay informed.
  • Respect and comply with storewide personnel policies.
  • Describe membership benefits, and how membership investment is made.
  • Adhere to scheduled shifts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Communication – effective interpersonal communication with team members and vendors in verbal and written forms.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow through on commitments and effective time management.
  • Open to input/feedback on work performance.
  • Open to giving input/feedback on Merchandising & Category Management department.
  • Self-driven/motivated throughout shift.
  • Knowledge or interest in learning about natural foods, local vendors, local farms.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple demands, stay calm, and prioritize effectively.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. periodically.
  • Ability to work in fluctuating temperatures.
  • Ability to handle raw and packaged animal products (meats, eggs, dairy, etc.
